September is Climate Change Awareness Month

Most people will agree that climate change is real.  Scientists have tracked and trended warming temperatures, warming oceans, melting glaciers, rising sea levels, CO2 levels, and more.  Some may argue and say this is just a cycle, but the evidence is pretty compelling.

Addressing climate change will require collective action from individuals, businesses, non-profits, and governments.  It can seem overwhelming.  While much of this is beyond one’s control, there are thoughtful actions the average person can take. 

• Reduce energy consumption: using energy-efficient appliances, properly insulate your home, adjust your thermostats to save energy. Consider investing in solar panels or other renewable energy sources if feasible.
• Use sustainable transportation: When feasible, use public transportation, carpooling, biking, or walking. Choose fuel-efficient or electric vehicles if possible.
• Reduce, reuse, recycle: Minimize single-use plastic consumption. Recycle paper, glass, plastic, and other materials according to local guidelines.
• Support renewable energy and green initiatives: Advocate for clean energy policies and support renewable energy development. Invest in green funds. Choose plant-based or meatless meals more often. Choose eco-friendly products.
• Educate yourself and others about climate change: Participate in local environmental groups. Plant trees and maintain green spaces in your community. Reduce personal waste by buying in bulk and using reusable containers. 
• Vote for climate-conscious leaders: Support political candidates who prioritize climate action.

Small action counts, and collective efforts can have a significant impact. By making sustainable choices in our daily life and advocating for broader change, we can contribute to a more sustainable future.
